The beginning

Atelier Bassi was founded in 1990 by Orlando Bassi. The decisive factor for the formation of the company was his conviction, that there was a need in high-quality wigs, theater cosmetics and special effects cosmetics.

With lots of personal engagement Orlando starts to build-up his company step by step. His first atelier was a small room at his parents appartment. His mother was his first associate. The ateliers' main chore included make-up artist work for theaters, film and TV. Great importance ist attached to professionalism and high-level service to the customer.

Asia

In the year of the foundation of the company, first contacts are established to companies in the asian area. The main focus therefore is to find appropriate production facilities for wigs. After months of efforts a first contact is established to a south-corean company that meets Atelier Bassis' high-quality criteria, followed by a strong collaboration to produce wigs for theaters. The progress of the company is noticeable and soon after they move into bigger locations, which within the time are continually enlarged. First a hairdresser salon is established in one part of the building. The same year, Anita Tinner, a highly quaiified associate is hired.

Make-up

At the same time they start looking worldwide for partners in the cosmetic field. In 1991 they decide to take over the general agency for GRIMAS theater and make-up products for Switzerland and Italy. This way they manage with a short time to expand their range of products. More contacts are established in the professional domain which often conclude in a close cooperation with theaters, filmstudios and TV-stations.

Organization

Following the enlargement of the company, a strong need for administrative work occurs. This increasing field of activity requires a qualified and motivated associate. Giuseppe Abbate joins the company in 1993 and tackles the international business activities in a professional way.

Production in Asia

In 1994 Atelier Bassi finds a new partner in southeast Asia. Their main focus with their new associate is to stress the training of wig production. The diverse criterias of wig production require lots of patience and determination from everybody involved in this project. 1995 proves to be a special year in the still young history of Atelier Bassi. First, after months of intensiv research and developpment, their own brand 4Make-up is being launched. 4Make-up specializes in in specific products for the creations of lesions (e.g. accidents). First contacts with US partners are established, specifically in the domain of wigs for film productions. Another project of this year is the creation of a own lab as well as the enlargement of their storage room. Furthermore they open a showroom, in order to meet the increasing demand of products in the regional market. The cooperation with their asian partner proves to be a success and Atelier Bassi increases their production. As of 1996 the Swiss samaritan federation takes-over the distribution of the 4Make-up special products. Seven years after the companies foundation, Atelier Bassi employs 6 employees in Switzerland. The amount of employees with their asian partner has been increased to 50.

Homepage and Los Angeles

The first homepage is beeing launched, providing information about their business and products. Atelier Bassi participates at the first "Make-up and Effects Tradeshow", taking place in Hollywood, Los Angeles. The show is being organised by one of the biggest US magazines for professional make-up artists. The show is a big success and many new contacts are beeing established.

Today

In august of 1998, after a long preparation period, Atelier Bassi opens their own wig company in Indonesia. Due to continuous development of products and productions methods, Atelier Bassi nowadays employs more than 100 permanent workers for 100% handited items at their production site in Indonesia. Atelier Bassi has advanced to be one of the leading companies worldwide in wig-production for theaters, film and TV. The swiss based headquarters of Atelier Bassi is responsible for worldwide sale and marketing. Other lines of production include; professional bags for the Film- and Make-up Industry as well three dimensional foampieces for any kind of special effects make-up.
